Pickens County Fire Chief Tim Prather and Captain Charles Caldwell reopened Station 13 by assembling a team of volunteers to support surrounding stations (5, 10, and 11) and to provide fire and medical response to our mountain communities — including Grandview, Oak Ridge, Old Burnt Mountain, the Georgian Highlands, and Hunter’s Ridge. Our service area covers 23.5 square miles and includes more than 1100 structures and 4000 residents.

The team now includes thirteen volunteers, including certified firefighters, certified emergency medical technicians and paramedics, as well as support volunteers. Equipped with a fire engine and a water tanker, Station 13 has already responded to brush fires, motor vehicle accidents and medical emergences in collaboration with neighboring stations. You may have already met some of us.

The Burnt Mountain Volunteer Association, a federally recognized tax-deductible charity, raises funds for Station 13 Pickens Fire & Rescue to purchase vital equipment and support training at outside venues.

Interested in Volunteering?
YOU CAN SERVE THE AREA WHERE YOU LIVE
Pickens County Fire Officials want people to know that there are volunteer positions to suit a variety of interests and physical abilities, that no prior experience is required, and that training can be conducted locally.

We need additional volunteers to train as firefighters. We also welcome those who can support in other roles - with station maintenance, traffic control, and firefighter support during emergencies.

We also have plans for fundraising events you can get involved in.
